Throughout my adolescence, the story of Nick, Ann, and Athena had always existed in my head in one form or another, and like a chameleon, it evolved to fit my maturity as I aged. Writing it was something I never thought of doing until I looked back at my high school and college careers and saw that English—a subject I wasn't exactly thrilled with at the time—was something I excelled in.

Well, it was that and a whole lot of encouragement from a coworker who was blazing a trail of his own that kick-started me. Thanks Ken. I recommend all fantasy fans check out his site for the series of books he's working on entitled The Kreggorian.

Having lived in Las Vegas my entire life, I've seen many people of different breeds and creeds come together. Some get along well, and some don't. I decided such a culture clash would make an interesting backdrop.

I've noticed that many people dismiss genre fiction as nothing but a series of unlikely scenarios. From the various genres of stories I've enjoyed, it is the situations we face in our own lives that when replicated in fiction—no matter what time or dimension it is—that can humor, sadden, or disturb us the most and I kept that idea at the forefront of my mind as I penned this.
