Factions

Inner World Coalition (IWC): This government maintains control over Venus and Earth's moon where Nick, Fred, and George live. Their ancestors trace back to a multinational expeditionary team sent to terraform the moon and Venus in the late twenty-first century. For the longest time, they had thought they were the only ones who survived a nuclear war that decimated Earth in the early 2100's and together, these few hundred survivors rebuilt civilization.

Jovian Nation (JN): While Jupiter itself is uninhabitable, the planet did lend humanity plenty of moons to be terraformed. The JN's past is unclear despite their superior technology although they believe they had similar origins to that of the IWC. After discovering a new mineral on Mars, the planet becomes a great interest to them.

Callisto Rebellion: A few years before the IWC and JN discover one another, a short civil war is fought between a terror cell on Callisto and the JN.

United Worlds (UW): This moniker was originally slated to be used for when the IWC and JN merged into one nation, but once the two factions go to war, the JN retains usage of the UW name as it was the IWC who backed out of the union and declared war.

Characters

Athena: To her father, she is nothing but a project to him: A task to be completed and revised if necessary.

Nick Cadwell: Brash, tough, and quick to judge, Nick doesn't back down from a fight, but isn't stupid enough to pick one he knows he can't win—until Ann pushes him too far. A cunning soldier, Nick knows which situations require the application of brawn and brain.

Fred Lucida: Often acting as Nick's conscience, Fred is frequently one to say, “I told you so,” but when he makes a bizarre moral decision that not even his best friend can comprehend, their trust is broken forever.

George Morison: General and leader of the Inner World Coalition, he sees Nick as one of his best pilots, but not even that help him protect Nick when disaster strikes the moon.

Ann Optima: Perverted into a hateful individual by several traumatic events in her childhood and early adulthood, war is all she has left to live for. Her birth-mother's brief treatment of her plays a much bigger role in creating the monster she is than she knows.

Sophie Larinov: She is a comrade of Ann's with a youthful boyish face marred with scars and one eye discolored from internal bleeding. Though she wants the best for her friend, Ann's behavior on the battlefield disturbs her greatly.

Victor Hoeffler: General of the Jovian Nation, he finds a trusted subordinate in Ann and learns to overlook her behavior because of their interconnected past.
